horns the guest

Two of my favorite movies of 2014 came out on blu-ray today and I couldn’t be happier. Neither film received a wide theatrical release and, unless you’re aggressively reading movie blogs, you probably haven’t heard of either film. I’m not giving any big review here as both movies must be watched to really be experienced, but here are brief synopsis on both:

Horns

horns

Daniel Radcliffe plays Ig Parrish, the number one suspect of his girlfriend’s murder who wakes up one morning to find horns growing out of his head. The bizarre doesn’t stop there: he learns that his horns are driving those around him to confess their hidden truths and act on their most deep desires, no matter how absurd. To define what genre this fits in is a difficult one, but I loved it and Radcliffe’s performance is mesmerizing. Buy it here

The Guest

Dan Stevens plays a charming stranger who shows up on a family’s doorstep, claiming to be their late son’s best friend from the Army. However, his story doesn’t completely add up. That is all I can say about this thriller from the writer and director of another favorite of mine, You’re Next. Don’t watch the trailers and don’t read anything else about this. Just know it’s fun, suspenseful, and has a killer soundtrack! Buy it here

Both of these come recommended and I hope they find a bigger audience on home video!
